Gracias Lucy ~ Yes, we should take care of returning veterans, BUTTT anyone who gets involved in fighting in an unjust war sponsored by an unjust government should be aware of the consequences of their actions. Heroes, drafted dummies or volunteer mercenaries?!

No Vietnamese soldier ever massacred my village! No Iraq insurgent ever put an IED in my path. My point is that we should look at this in connected reality, of course, we should help those who return all banged up from foreign unjust wars on a humane basis, but let us not forget the origins and historical contexts of such wars! We need to stop making such so-called heroes!

Hola Juan Carlos ~ I want to take this time to welcome you to the Aztlannet_News Group. I am a Moderator for the Aztlannet_News Yahoo Group. I read your request when you decided to join up and hope we all learn and participate as time goes by in our lives.

How did you hear about us? Let me know. If you want to write to me only just put PRIVATE in the Subject Line or I may not read it. I get hundreds of Emails a day and try to stay away from information overload.

We should balance our personal daily lives online learning and communicating; offline busy working in our local communities and inline working on our continued spiritual maturity.

There is a companion blog for this Group located on the Internet @

http://aztlannet-news-blog.blogspot.com/

Plus from time to time check out our main website @ http://www.0101aztlan.net

I want Aztlannet_News Group Members to search and report the News on the Internet, report local community news and come up with our own analyses about the News and current events.

Examine our Group Description before you post @

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Aztlannet_News/

You should know that there are two other groups related to Aztlannet @

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aztlannet_action/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aztlannet_arte/

I want other Group Members to submit relevant posts and not have the Group dominated by any one member by dumping a bunch of posts not really related to the News and the Group as a whole. If need be we will moderate incoming posts from members who fail to keep this in mind!

Perhaps we should have another Yahoo Group called Aztlannet_Cultura to address other issues in question, but my main area of interest online is the fresh news in general.

I am first and foremost a humane being and consider myself a Chicano of Mexican-American-Native ancestry. I am over half a century in Earth-years and write from Sacramento, California. Sometimes I feel ancient as if I incarnate over and over and other times like a child amazed at the constant miracles of simple life.

No one has cornered the market on truth, our knowledge should be deepening daily and we are all ignorant of all that we do not know. Thus, we should humbly learn from each other.

Time is sacred. Take the time to explore previous Group Messages to get a better picture of what has already been posted before.

If you want, offer a brief introduction of yourself, your concerns and your interests so we can get to know each other better as time goes by. Sharing is caring!

@10:00 AM ~ Hola Artistas and Gente ~ I work with a real progressive recovery group called CASA and thank God for being able to moderate postings. Like my multiple personality friend says, "It takes all kinds!"

Sometimes we can check how a member receives Messages or not, then, if it is set to receive no Email consider that a factor in our moderation duties. In my other groups I am the Moderator for I usually Edit Membership to at least receive Special Notices to be utilized on extremely rare occasions like 911, alien takeover or 2nd Coming {or is that 3rd?}.

"Art is the heart's explosion on the world. Music. Dance. Poetry. Art on cars, on walls, on our skins. There is probably no more powerful force for change in this uncertain and crisis-ridden world than young people and their art. It is the consciousness of the world breaking away from the strangle grip of an archaic social order." ~ Luis J. Rodriguez

11:50 AM ~ I will try to promote certain figures. We need positive role models. Harry James said you have to toot your own horn! Some people are like flowers and plants... you have to cultivate, tend and water them. Others are self-motivated.

I will try to take the time to issue a welcome to new Aztlan News Group Members to kind of re-inforce stuff. If Carlos does not get the drift then he needs to re-focus. . I Bcc: him earlier about the Welcome Post to a new member.

With some other prominent folks we can cyber escort them, help them Edit Membership and stress to them the social importance of Internet Power to reach out to their/our people, then, some we will have to drag into the new Millenium kickin' and screamin'.

A computer and shotgun in every home!

Several years ago, when I first told my Pops about him getting a computer he said that he didn't need that 'high-tech crap'. Some time after, an ol' Pachuco friend of his, Jimmy Hernandez from down south {my Dad was raised in Logan Heights, San Diego}, got a computer! Then it was about keeping up with the Hernandez's and he got a top of the line computer!

In fact, he gave me the one I have now, a hp Pentium. Now Pops can run a small banana republic with the one has now, has a cell phone, a TV as big as damn drive-in movie and other manifestations of a high-tech society. Go figure!

I believe we need to create strong political vehicles, build up our media outlets and essentially organize a new cultural-social matrix! As the Movimiento grows and expands others will sense our sincere striving for empowerment and come on board. Either that or we can just all go back into our caves! ~Peta~

Friday Night ~ I try to take my time in responding, give it thoughtful consideration. This way of communicating via Emails is not the best, though it is one key way people do communicate in these times. Words may be one of the worst ways to communicate true thoughts and felt feelings. The humane voice has timbre and tenor that resonates in a unique quality that mere typed words can convey.

We should take the time in our busy lives to record our biographical histories and those we care about. Have you gotten into podcasting?

There are a lot of true horror stories so baffling and bizarre that few dare to even whisper them let alone speak of them. Yet we should act our age and with our courage give voices to those who are without voices or forget they have voices. Think about it… what does this mean? ~ Peta

Hola Roberto! Welcome to the Aztlannet_News Group.

You failed to take the time to state why you wanted to join, but I accepted your membership going by instinct and user name.

A lot of people in this group are lax in their postings as if our lives are not at stake and all are well in the nightmare of Amerika. It is harder to catch a dozen wise men than a thousand fools.

Nevertheless, I want to take this time to welcome you to the Aztlannet_News Group. I am a Moderator for the Aztlannet_News Yahoo Group, though not the group owner. If I were I would change some of the group settings and open it up more. This is a real breathing Chicano taking the time to type this to you, not an automated Mensaje.

How did you hear about us? Were you just surfing the Internet? A previous post in another group or another website? Let me know.

To write to me only just put PRIVATE in the Subject Line or I may not read it. I get hundreds of Emails a day and try to stay away from information overload.

I want Aztlannet_News Group Members to search and report the News on the Internet, report local community news and come up with our own analyses about the News and current events.

Of course, life don’t always go by what I want and we are ultimately governed by our own needs, especially our basic survival needs.

I want other Group Members to submit relevant posts via Emails. I do not want this Group dominated by any one member by dumping a bunch of posts not really related to the News and the Group as a whole. Cute cooking recipes and cultural nationalist blurbs do not really quality as NEWS!

If need be we will moderate the incoming posts of members who fail to keep this in mind!

We should have companeros and companeras from throughout all of Aztlan sending in fresh reports from the field to us about what is going on in their local areas. A lot is going on we do not know about and a lot needs to be done.

Perhaps we should have yet another Yahoo Group called Aztlannet_Cultura to address other issues in question, inclusing cultural affairs, but my main area of interest online is the fresh news in general. I already know how to make meuudo, great chili beans and homemade tortillias!

Plus, I play guitar, sing, dance and like to macrame, but time is a tyrant.

Hola All Members of the Humane Family ~ Gracias for your educational Email Brother Palashc!

My first animal instinct is to be glad the verdict is in and that Saddam is to be hanged as he was and is a great evildoer, then, my striving to be a conscious humane being makes me ponder upon this a little longer before we run out and take a basket collection for a rope. It has not been a cut and dry case.

I am against the death penalty as wielded by an unjust state, but there are exceptional cases when the death penalty is appropriate when great crimes have been committed. However, judging by the way death penalty verdicts are stalled out by appeals inside the United States I doubt if there will be a Saddam Hanging Video on U-Tube anytime soon.

I believe there should have been an international tribunal and neutral grounds for the Saddam Trial, which became a big media circus, not to mention the killing of officers of the court. The whole case involves matters of global international law, especially when we consider the question of who kept Saddam in power for so long in the first place?

Iraq: Declassified Documents of U.S. Support for Hussein

With Joyce Battle / Middle East Analyst, National Security Archive at George Washington University =Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003; 11 a.m. ET

The National Security Archive at George Washington University has published a series of declassified U.S. documents detailing the U.S. embrace of Saddam Hussein in the early 1980’s. The collection of documents, published on the Web, include briefing materials, diplomatic reports of two Rumsfeld trips to Baghdad, reports on Iraqi chemical weapons use during the Reagan administration and presidential directives that ensure U.S. access to the region's oil and military expansion…..

Then, there is also the central question of war crimes done by war criminals from the USA, including President Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and the whole Oval Office Cabal and their cronies. Who will put them on trial? How can we condemn crimes against humanity by one evil dictator and condone the inhumanity of another evil dictator who stole the Presidential Election in 2000?

The U.S. government obviously does not give a damn about the desires and wishes of the Iraqui people for peace and justice, so why should it start caring now? It already allows the rape and murder of innocent Iraqi girls and massacres of Iraqi families! Remember that or does memory fail you? Who will stop these mutant Amerikan War criminals and their bastard offspring?

John 8:7 ~ So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone…”

Comment: It looks like there was a great turnout by voters who actually voted on Election Day last Tuesday with great positive results. It seems that Democrats took over the numerical majority in the U.S. Congress in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The central fact remains that the Amerikan corporate ruling class still controls electoral politics, the Democratic and Republican Party is still a two-headed monster and the progressive movement inside the United States is still divided, scattered and in need of fresh vanguard leadership.

We should continue to do community education work on the local level with a global overview, continue to encourage people to register to vote and continue to raise humane consciousness among the people one day at a time.

Sabbath Morning ~ 11-11-06 ~ @12:01 PM

It is a dreary wet day here so I keep an inner vision of sunshine in my soul’s heart. For sure Summer is over now, the Autumn leaves are falling and cold Winter approaches.

I have a shift at Sally's from 4 PM to 12 Midnight. Then, I am going over to my new place ~ home? camp? sanctuary? ~ over my Cousin Mark's place to spend the night, Mark Chacon is my spirit cousin. We look alike, have known each other for a long time and both of us to be homeless dope fiends. plus, he is an animal rights activist and so we get along great.

He has a nice two-bedroom house on ‘D’ Street in a nice neighborhood. I already paid $325 Rent there for this month, the rent will be $425 per month and I still want to keep my sanctuary here, plus I have the key to Anna's place. So from once being homeless in the streets I have evolved to having three different places where I can lay my head, but where my computer/Internet connection is at there is my Command Post.

Even the whole concept of 'home' is kind of illusionary to me. Ideally, my eventual home will be in Heaven or at least in another sphere or dimension far far different from this one.

I will blog this Email Message when I click send above and kill two birds with one stone.

I still consider you my recovery sponsor, but to me that has become more of having a distant objective person not wrapped up in my day-to-day life who can give me timely guidance as time goes by about general issues in life, especially recovery.

To me, this lifetime has evolved into being one of healing from the past and trying not to get ill or get infections from other sources.

Before, as a sponsor, I had Brother Enrique, a recovering heroin addict who is the Secretary for CA @ Sally's and does a North Sac AA Meeting, but him and I had a parting of ways several months ago. At the time, I was criticizing Bill W. ~AA co-founder~ and he made a statement outside a meeting, but in the dining room, about me not knowing ‘anything’ about the AA Big Book and the Holy Bible when he got emotionally upset. Later on, we kissed and made up but the damage has been done and that really did give me a resentment.

He does not mix A.A. Big Book with the Holy Bible, while I know that it was Creator God's amazing grace that pulled me out of my chemical addiction, plus, being the self-appointed CASA Field Coordinator, I would find that really impossible to separate recovery from religion.

Keep in mind that my whole approach to recovery in general is a triune approach in the recognition that Creator God comes in threes formatted as follows:

1. Sobriety,

2. Recovery and

3. Liberty.

I recently wrote an Updated version of an earlier article called On the 12-Steps for Dummies and read it aloud at last week's Sunday CASA Meeting.

http://casa-12steps.blogspot.com/2006/11/on-twelve-steps-for-dummies-by-peta.html

I got an unasked for applause from the CASA Group, but to me it is all really basic and generice. A lot of stuff I am writing these days is more a matter of cleaning up messes that having any real new stuff, though, that will come in time.

I strive to raise consciousness line-by-line, step-by-step, and precept-by-precept. Maybe this sounds gross, but I believe that the most people we can reach out to and come to agreement with on the basics then the fewer enemies we will have in the future. Call it minimizing any potential collateral damage.

At root, I have always had a social-political agenda working with CASA and it is not merely a sobriety-enforcing group. The central purpose of CASA is to promote our liberty in general as I am aware that it is social conditions that must be changed in order to dig out the roots of addiction that are deep in the ground of this sick insane society and it is these social conditions that constantly manufactures more and more drunks and dope fiends. The people of the United States are the largest consumer of drugs, legal and illegal, in the world. What is up with that?

WE have more money to spend on dope/booze in industrialized-civilized countries than do those of the Third World, but I wonder why so many want to escape connected reality and get lost in a blur of medicated false escape? Addiction is a worldwide problem and we need to have a global overview that recognizes the face of addiction as a worldwide problem that has a great impact on all societies, all governments and all peoples.

In relation to what I term ‘the people’s liberation movement’ I believe that drug addiction has had disastrous effects on vanguard leadership that has been kind of glossed over and kept in the closet.

Remember Huey P. Newton was on crack and involved in a crack deal when he was killed!

More research still needs to be done or people need to come up and tell the truth about it all, but there are some good books out.

Check out!
http://www.discoverthenetwork.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1524

My point is that I realize that my own chemical addiction indulgences retarded my personal participation in liberation efforts and just for today I have a handle on it, but like a hidden assassin the re-appearing of my addiction hides in the darkness of my soul ever ready to come out and pounce upon me. One must be on guard!

In the end on this lifelong journey there should be a self-realization that it is not about going somewhere else from where we are, but in being HERE NOW in our whole being as a humane being. In a way, there is no existing past or future, only what is HERE NOW. There is only this HERENESS and this NOWNESS. The journey ends where it began, within us, within our BEINGNESS. Thus, from our HERE NOW we work on our continued Spiritual Growth, Maturity and Liberty!

So for me the concept of ‘progressive recovery’ is not just another approach to recovery fabricated our of my fanciful fantasies to be added to the others, it is really a matter of personal survival as I wage people’s war with all the powers and resources at my disposal. If I need to go it alone, I will go it alone. I must follow the dictates of my conscience, of my humane consciousness and ultimately it is a delicate personal matter between the Divine Who holds the Ledger of Life and my own salvaged soul.

11-11-06 Sunday Afternoon ~

After some soul-searching, YES, you are right. We do need a propaganda machine to combat this reactionary pigshit but mechanics without dynamics will not suffice. I guess that shit by that gross Gus punk just pissed me off and sometimes I get angry against insanity. SO what do we do about it?

Ernest wrote before:

"The greatest mistakes made after the Marches, were that we did not counter the flack from the Antis, we did not stop the Spin Cycle on the Media and all false accusations about the Liberation of Aztlan went unchallenged."

The Marches exhibited our great spiritual awakening and their collective impact still has ripple effects. BUTTT, remember we still need to do the hard local community work in our own various areas, barrios and natural environments. Patience, tolerance and understanding can be good qualities, especially as I am interested in quality longevity. That does not mean swallowing any shit, but it does mean choosing our battles carefully and strategically.

Someday I hope we can all get together for a Gathering over cafe, canela or cerveza with a bowl of menudo, each to his drinking preference.

You're right Earnesto! We need to go after these fascist ass-lickin’ fools! Who wants to volunteer in on a squad or brigade? I use to organize gente for the Venceremos Brigade to Cuba. Maybe I can hobo up to Seattle and wait until this vendido comes out of his cubicle! I can sneak up on his blind side and wap him with a frozen tamale!

Actually, I went up to Seattle once a few years ago and have a few contacts there.

In strategic terms, we need to really build up a political party or vanguard vehicle and not even attempt to combat the fascist propaganda machine with all the main weapons of mass media at their disposal with our present meager resources. I know and believe this will improve as time goes by and have an undying faith!

Over time I have seen so much reaction to reaction by left-wing progressives instead of instituting new actions, new forms of resistance and creating new battlefronts. I miss the old Chicano Press Association. It was really kind of an early movement matrix, but don't let me snivel in nostalgia.

Each of us has a limited amount of time, measure of faith and level of consciousness. I strive to raise consciousness in real life with those that come within my field of vision, esp. those within my arm's reach... and I have long arms! Yet you can see that I can also reach out and touch someone via Internet Power!

Total combat involves all ways and means, all tactics and technique, all angles and trajectories. No method can be discounted or overlooked!

~Peta-de-Aztlan
sacranative@yahoo.com

P.S. Actually, I am geographically closer to Seattle that any of you down south, being up here by the Governator! It is rainy today up here but I have to do a shift at the Salvation Army Shelter

A te wacho!
++++++++++

Lunes @11:18 AM ~ Gracias for your response Zelda. Yeah, you're closer to Seattle! Take the contract! ;->

Realistically, we need to NOT GET STUCK in a reactive mode when it comes to these reactionary propagandists. We should always focus more on doing community propaganda among our own people, our own supporters and definately among our own families.

I remember, in what seems like a past lifetime, we had a Chicano Conference in the Bay Area around the La Raza Unida Party. Corky Gonzales was there and he talked about recognizing a common denominator in terms of us all being of La Raza: Chicanos, Latinos, Puerto Ricans and others.

Circumstances change in time and space and we should also change with changed circumstances.

The common denominator I see is that we are all human beings, though we may not all be really humane in all our relatons, we are all certainly ordinary human beings with basic common survival needs. It is our survival needs that form the basis of our unity, especially when we see the need for a fundamental transformation in the balance of power from its present imbalance where a few percentage control the vast majority into a true democratic balance. We are not now living under a true social democracy with proportional representation inside the USA. The General Elections are over and we are still poor, still oppressed and still alienated!

It is Monday and I have miles to go before sunset. We can learn a lot from the Black Civil Rights Movement and the early Black Liberation Movement. As Chicanos, we must not let ourselves be isolated as 'Chicanos' in terms of ethnic identity. In fact, we just might be a cultural missing link!

We need to be shining examples of compassionate humane beings in a multi-racial and multi-cultural society, despite all its evils and imbalances.

We cannot simply holler Brown! Brown! Brown! or Chicano! Chicano! Chicano! We must shout in the streets and whisper to the winds that we are HUMANE BEINGS with HUMANE RIGHTS given to us from the Creator from birth as our sacred birthright!

Despite all the progress that blacks have made they are still seen first as blacks, not as people. The majority of the people in many places inside the USA are still Whites. We must bridge the racial divides beween us and all other peoples of all social origins. Thus, we take a stand as being stridently ANTI-RACIST!

Always keep in mind that the concept of 'race' is a social man-made construction. It has no basis in science, in DNA and in bloodlines. We need to build up our alliances with our natural allies, get rid of any remants of racism and ignorant prejudice among us and strive to become more and more humane, move and move loving, more and more tolerant of our superficial differences. The fact remains we are still living in CLASS SOCIETY that is primarily divided along economic class lines, NOT cultural-ethnic ones. Remember Roman Formulas!

Towards Oneness Among Humanity!

Sabbath Morning ~ I will forward it to CASA 12-Steps, though it is a small tiny group. Most of the folks I work with are not even on the Internet you know. The below is an interesting story that says much about a major character defect of men: GREED!

Beyond the sentimentality, I was against Amerikan involvement in Vietnam and all the 60,000 + soldiers who died there did not for any obscure sense of freedom for me. Maybe the dead son should have resisted the war! Now we have Iraq and the many causalities coming home, a few of which I am already coming across.

I copied and am sending this to other Email Addresses that were in your original Email. Online networking..... or interrupting complacency!

Many so-called 'normies' need to comprehend that the 12-Steps have cosmic applications too and can help all of us in our basic humane development, including GREED as a character defect.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A clear example, a poor young Black Brother I know who was in Iraq got flipped over a couple of times in his tank, was given a medical discharge and suffers seizures now. The VA has been unresponsive in his request for payments and he is worried about becoming homeless. He got a part-time job with the Salvation Army as a bell-ringer and was robbed yesterday! He always had a severe black eye from when he had a severe seizure and fell. Fortunately, he was on Channel 13 last night about his robbery and it is hoped that he will get some real help.

Americans, I mean U.S. citizens, need to get rid of their phony patriotism. We love our sons and should resist their involvement in unjust Empire-building wars! Let us not forget the humane principles upon which this country was founded and let us not forget the slave masters who were the signers of the Declaration of Independence! This whole country was founded upon the evil institution of slavery! Maybe I digress here. I assure you that upon the Return of Jesus Christ HE will not come back the same way he left! ~~Peta

Gracias Hermano GB! ~ The Aztlan Chicano 0101 looks a lot better! http://www.0101aztlan.net/

I will forward this Email to other groups and pass it on.

There are some great socio-political online groups that address a range of central humane rights and social justice issues. I belong to several of them and I usually Edit Membership to only receive Special Notices. I strive to balance my life-energy with community education work out in my local environment. I wish there was more of a focused concentration on the coordination of communications among online groups, especially when certain social campaigns are going on.

In connected reality, reality is primarily actual, not virtual, and we need to reach out to as many people we can who are not able to enjoy the relative luxury of being online. Much basic local community work still needs to be done, including basic literacy and bi-lingual education.

I remember in early 2001, all that summer and going into the fall when there was a lot of Internet mobilizing being done by a lot of online groups with key groups shared their messages with each other and cross-posted, especially in relation to the 2000 Bush Regime's coup-d-etat when there were some big anti-Bush demonstrations. Then, 911 hit and changed the world's social, political and military dynamics. A lot of people got paranoid and some strident voices got silent.

Now that the Democrats have the bulk of the power in Congress I hope some things will improve but we are still living under a mature disguised fascism, especially when people have a comic-book notion about fascism with images of Nazi Germany and grossly underestimate the flexibility of Amerikan Fascism.

When the world witnessed the great immigrant rights marches this year a lot of Latinos, including Mexicanos, woke up for awhile yet no real immigration reform has happened as we will suffer more repression as times goes by and the Amerikan wall is going up! The whole USA is becoming a fascist-inspired militarily gated community that will keep some out and keep us all inside its legal borders inside the continental United States.

At the risk of being redundant, we still need to build up a strong global vanguard liberation movement not limited by colors, tongues or borders.

I really wish more progressive activists who are online and interested in Latino News would join up with Aztlannet_News Yahoo Group, especially with all that is going on in different regions related to various issues. We have more strong collective power when our impassioned voices are joined together.

Ideally, we should have our own TV Cable News Show, more videos and utilize all forms of media. Internet Power is one major way we can utilize to overcome the dominant corporate media.

Know that to many indigenous people’s inside the USA what is known as Thanksgiving Day is seen as a sad bitter reminder and classic example of genocide against Native-Americans, especially the public posting of the head of the great chief of the Wampanoags, Metacomet. I am sure I will get the usual Email posts about it tomorrow.

http://www.nativecircle.com/mlmThanksgivingmyth.html

'Thanksgiving' did not begin as a great loving relationship between the pilgrims and the Wampanoag, Pequot and Narragansett people. In fact, in October of 1621 when the 'pilgrim' survivors of their first winter in Turtle Island sat down to share the first unofficial 'Thanksgiving' meal, the Indians who were there were not even invited! There was no turkey,

squash, cranberry sauce or pumpkin pie. A few days before this alleged feast took place, a company of 'pilgrims' led by Miles Standish actively sought the head of a local Indian leader, and an 11 foot high wall was erected around the entire Plymouth settlement for the very purpose of keeping Indians out!”

http://www.powwows.com/gathering/showthread.php?t=469

“When Captain Benjamin Church tracked down and assassinated Metacomet, his body was quartered and parts were "left for the wolves." The great "Indian" chief's hands were cut off and sent to Boston and his head went to Plymouth where it was set upon a poke on Thanksgiving Day, 1767. Metacomet's nine-year-old son was destined for execution, the Puritan reasoning being that the offspring of the "Devil" must pay for the sins of their father. He was instead shipped to the Caribbean to serve his life in slavery.”

We should learn from true history, learn from our mistakes and each of us needs to find our own sense of spirituality in these transition times. I am thankful for all my blessings and every day should be a thanksgiving day in honor of the Great Creator!

Orale Companero Daniel ~ You have done very well. I added it to My Favorites in a Folder I label Aztlan News.

I like it a lot better than Guillermo’s website @ http://www.0101aztlan.net

GB is the Webcontroller for the Aztlannet Website!

Your website looks 'alive' and updated, not static. We need to stay flexible, open to suggestions and always update stuff if we are ever to compete with other media forums. We need to have a real vibrant Latino TV News Show that is comparable to Democracy Now! along with a website as an enhancement.

I am a Chicano but I do not need to just shout Chicano! Chicano! Chicano! without any relevant content. With all that is going on globally we need to learn to reflect, absorb and incorporate the relevant news about all real struggles from a Chicano perspective but with a global outlook.

I am the Monitor for Aztlanet_News Yahoo Group, though, I do not have complete control of it or I would change its Settings in a heartbeat to make it more wide open. Who is afraid of an occasional off-the-wall Email from a wacky member? I sometimes welcome divergent opinions that are true disagreements that could be worked out with sincere dialogue and sharpen our debating skills, unless someone just wants to be disruptive and stuck on stupid.

Plus, I am the Moderator for Humane-Rights-Agenda Yahoo Group and other Yahoo Groups.

I have been doing http://aztlannet-news-blog.blogspot.com/ since August of this year and there people can post Comments, though, people rarely do. The ideal is to make Internet News interactive with those who read it as we always keep in mind the importance of promoting computer and general literacy.

I hope others have seen it your website. Let me know if I can be of any help and I will help as my time and my workload situation permits. Competition can be good, or better, positive emulation that is done for our mutual interests.

I am sharing this thread with 1Zapatistas Yahoo Group as it kind of started there.

Whenever I say Venceremos! We Will Win! It is a truism, not just an old Che Guevara slogan. I have no doubt we will win in the long-run with a strategic overview, though; many great sacrifices will be necessary. In fact, we have already won on the high moral humane ground. Recall: our enemies are dinosaurs fearing their extinction and they know there is are constantly growing global movements against their evil imperialist-fascist reign.

The U.S. general population of White people reminds me of pre-Nazi Germany, especially the central role of White racism, the same as pre-Nazi Germans had strong anti-Jewish beliefs. The Big Lie still works and even the U.S. government can deny that Iraq is in a Civil War. Our U.S. prisons are already concentration camps. The same as the worker in a factory looks out in silent fear at the homeless walking outside the factory window, the urbanized U.S. citizens knows there are many suffering peoples outside the United States in the coming Third World.

I know a little about world history and have monitored the general contours of current events rather closely the last several years, especially since I sobered up, got hip to the Internet and daily scanned global news generated from outside the USA-mainstream corporate media.

I remember right after 911 how Granma was blocked for a day or so. I know our enemies could shut down the whole Internet if they wanted to in the name of fighting the War on Terror. The fascist pigs and their xenophobic-racist flunkeys hate all these thousands of Group Email posts and communications spanning states, riding over regions and crossing borders outside of their control, without their permission or authorization.

Long ago I came to the understanding that everything we post is subject to being monitored and I am for one am not crippled by any cowardly paranoia. People are dying now who could be saved!

Chicanos ~ as an abandoned ‘lost tribe’ inside the United States ~ are in an extremely key strategic geographical position being inside the brain of the beast. Hell, many still argue about what the hell to call ourselves as a people?

Nevertheless, do not underestimate the gnawing hunger and dark despair of many millions of people off the fascist radar screen. Remember how the Grande Marchas amazed so many people? Hell, I did not know we had so many ‘gente’ who would come out in the streets in support of immigrant rights. Who really did?

There are great social forces numbering in the billions of people that are building and could hasten global events in a matter of days, weeks and months with the proper global coordination of communications and concentrated planned logistics. Why could all this happen? By what awesome miracle? It is so simple it escapes many so-called leaders…

It is simply the hunger of the people!

https://www.geni.org/globalenergy/issues/global/qualityoflife/hunger/index.shtml

“Starvation kills 35,000 every day: 35 thousand children die each day from hunger and hunger-related illnesses. These 13 million annual deaths can end if society intitiates already known solutions to the issue of ending hunger.”

We strive to exhaust all legal, peaceful and social means and methods of struggle, but let no one who braves each new day have any dopey hallucinations or be under any false illusions. Who is willing to get their hands dirty? Who is prepared for war to the knife? The inevitable showdown cannot be put off forever and at least regional civil war inside the United States is as predictable as nightfall. Stay alert, be ready and be prepared. Being prepared we can better deal with all kinds of complicated sudden situations. More will be revealed…..

Gracias Dan E~ It is true that we need to keep in mind the constant evilness being perpetuated behind prison walls inside the United States, though, we our hearts should envelope the cosmos and our Mother Earth.
We should do what we can to Free Brother Hugo and all prisoners who are caged without justice, including Brother Leoanrd Peltier!

After all these years we are still fighting the same basic struggles we did back in the 60's and Amerikna fascism is still in power and secure. Fortuhately, we have Internet Power in order to reach out to other, raise humane consciousness and do online networking. And we have shining examples of other fallen warriors, including El General George L Jackson.

Subject: Political prisoner Hugo Pinell Denied Parole

While there has been justifiable outrage and concern over the treatment of prisoners by the US in Iraq and in Guantanamo, it should not be forgotten that the US has a long history to torture and mistreatment of prisoners in its own jails, most of whom are African-American, Latino, and Native American. There are also political prisoners, stemming from the radical movements inside the prisons during the 60s and early 70s--which, like the organizations on the outside, like the Black Panthers, were disrupted and destroyed by the FBI's COINTEL program which twisted their common struggle against them while infusing killer drugs into the ghettos, the barrios, and into the prisons, themselves. This is the story of one those prisoners who became politicized during that period and who, for that reason and nothing more, the State of California prison system refuses to parole.

    PRESS RELEASE

    HUGO PINELL DENIED PAROLE
by Gordon Kaupp, Esq. with Kiilu Nyasha

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Board of Parole Hearing, for the 8th time, denied Hugo L,A. Pinell parole at a hearing held Tuesday, November 14, at supermax Pelican Bay State Prison, Crescent City.

Apparently, 42 years in California prisons, the last 36 in solitary confinement, including 16 in the windowless, hi-tech SHU (Security Housing Unit) with sensory deprivation in the extreme, was not enough retribution against Hugo Pinell, nicknamed Yogi Bear. They gave him two more.

Since Hugo has had a clean record, no 115s, (rule infractions) for 24 years and his last crime was committed 35 years ago, it was a almost purely a political decision.

Hugo was part of the Black Movement formed in resistance to the deplorable conditions and unspeakable brutality that was exacted on prisoners, especially Blacks, in the 1960s and 70s. Born in Nicaragua, Hugo also resisted the Mexican/Latino segregation of Blacks. i.e., he broke ranks, identifying as Black instead of “Latino.” That made him even more of a target and a bilingual threat.

It is indisputable that it was the prisoners' Movement led by George Jackson and W. L. Nolen, which brought attention to the appalling conditions and eventually Congressional oversight and overhaul of the California prison system. (See The Melancholy History of Soledad Prison, by Min S. Yee.)

The mandated changes that grew out of that struggle serve as an open and undeniable acknowledgment of just how bad it was and how necessary the resistance. Although it’s difficult to imagine worse conditions than those in today’s 5000 prisons and jails across the country, most grossly overcrowded -- yesterday’s filthy dungeons, literal “holes,” virulent hatred from racist guards and prisoners alike, officially sanctioned brutality, torture, and murder comprised more horrific conditions 40 years ago.

The stance Hugo Pinell took resulted in prolonged torture and isolation, plus a long record of 115s. E.g., Hugo often intervened physically when another prisoner was being beaten, getting beat up himself and thrown in the hole. Almost any Black person who has suffered guard or police assault knows that when the brutality stops, it’s the victim who gets the charges or write-ups for assault, not the official aggressor.

At one point in the turbulent 60s, the Movement organized a hunger strike which lasted eight days. Hugo’s file reflects eight 115s, one for each day and that was used against him at the hearing!

During the hearing, the Commissioners virtually ignored his 24 years of clean time, and tallied his 115s, counting well over 100. Although Hugo has not gotten a violation since 1982, the Board found a way to hold that against him too. Commissioner Shelton said something like, “when I see a man as violent as you and I see that you have not had a 115 for 24 years it makes me wonder, and it reminds me of a story I once heard. At a parole board hearing of an inmate who had received many 115s early on but hadn’t received any in a long time, a commissioner asked him how he was able to stay out of trouble. The inmate told the Board, ‘It’s because I’m the shot caller on the yard and I can get anyone to take the fall for me.’” That story is incredible for several reasons: that a prisoner would even say such a thing; the fact that Hugo is never on the yard; and SHU prisoners are completely isolated, no phone calls, censored mail, restricted, monitored, no-contact visits.

What’s more, the Board violated Hugo’s right not to discuss or admit to the crimes for which he was convicted. An in-depth look at Hugo’s convictions reveals serious questions of reliability of evidence and basic fairness in the trials. Except for the original case that landed him in prison, all of Hugo’s subsequent convictions were for acts against prison guards, reflecting the historic struggle referred to above. Nevertheless, one Commissioner did hold his denial against him and berated him for it, saying, “and you continue to show no remorse and you even deny doing those things.” What good is the right not to admit to something, if your lack of remorse (for something you didn’t do) can be used against you?

I’m reminded of the case of Geronimo ji Jaga (Pratt) who spent 27 years in California prisons convicted of a murder for which he was ultimately exonerated. He faced the same reason for being repeatedly denied parole -- his refusal to show remorse for a crime he didn’t commit. Similarly, Hugo’s denial of guilt and lack of remorse was used against him, a clear violation of his rights under Cal. Penal Code Sec. 5011.

One of the requirements for parole is community support upon release. Forty letters from teachers, professors, human rights advocates, social workers, friends, family, and even the Public Defender, Jeff Adachi, offering Hugo San Francisco’s new reentry program upon parole, were discounted and scorned by the Commissioners.

Another point the Board used against Hugo was his unwillingness to “program.” Insistence on programming in reality is about domination and submission, since the extremely limited “programs” they provide do not produce truly marketable skills. SHU prisoners don’t even have access to the programs available to mainline prisoners. They can only take certain correspondence courses or read self-help books to demonstrate their compliance.

Hugo’s lack of submission to the system’s programming has to do with his own program of survival under conditions designed to produce insanity. The supermax SHU is itself a human rights violation. The United Nations and Amnesty International assert that the conditions of the SHU are inhumane and in violation of the international conventions on the treatment of prisoners. Psychiatrists in the field of prison mental health have documented through dozens of studies since the 1970s that SHU conditions -- 23-24 hours a day in small cells with no natural light, no windows, no view outside their cells, no contact visits, prolonged isolation -- are always harmful. One such expert, Dr. Terry Kupers, author of "Prison Madness: The Mental Health Crisis Behind Bars and What We Must Do About It," evaluated Hugo’s mental health in 2004, and concluded that he is nothing short of amazing. Hugo has been able to maintain his sanity through a strict regimen of vegetarian diet, exercise, prolific writing to relatives and friends, and other forms of self care. This is a full time effort to be sure, and the result is that Hugo remains compassionate, mentally and physically healthy and alive against all odds. It’s even more remarkable considering that in 2005, a record 44 prisoners killed themselves in California prisons; 70% of the suicides were in segregated units. In a national study of 401 suicides in one year, 1986, two out of every three people who killed themselves were in control units. (Hayes and Rowan 1988).

In summary, this Parole Board Hearing was anything but fair and impartial. We sit in a room in the SHU with the Commissioners facing Hugo and I (his attorney), three guards behind us and Hugo chained hands to waist, feet to waist. Openly hostile, the commissioners recounted the history of 115s, alleged attacks on guards over 35 years ago, with SHU guards looking at us, looking at them. It’s unfair because the commitment offenses cannot change; only the prisoner can change.

Despite their unfairness, despite their violation of his rights, despite their refusal to display humaneness or common sense, and despite their utter rudeness and obvious contempt for Hugo, I must say my client remained strong and upbeat. I felt proud of him.

We were all but sure that they wouldn’t grant him parole before going into the hearing, but we knew that we had to make a good record so that we could move into the second stage of the strategy to get Hugo Pinell out of SHU, out of prison.

We intend to file a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus with an outside court to appeal the Board’s denial. We are announcing our search and need for a law firm with the resources to represent Hugo. If you know any law offices or friends in firms please ask them if they would be willing to take the case and to call or write me, his attorney, Gordon Kaupp, 115 1/2 Bartlett Street, San Francisco, Ca. 94110, (415) 285 8091.

    On Tuesday After the Elections:
    By Peta-de-Aztlan
    Date= 11-14-2006

    http://liberation-now.blogspot.com/2006/11/on-tuesday-after-electionsby-peta-de.html
    +++++++++++++++++++++++
    Tuesday, November 14, 2006

On this dreary wet Tuesday morning, one week after the mid-term General Elections, as usual, I woke up, said my morning prayer, relieved myself, washed up and made a pot of hot coffee.

I was thinking about what the cost of the U.S. Mid-term election was in dollar signs. So I did a Google Search and got a few interesting results cited far below. I found out that the Overall Cost of the Midterm Election was from $2.6 Billion to $2.8 Billion dollars and that is billion with a ‘B’!

So the electoral circus came to town and left wherever circuses go until the next round of Elections in 2008 when I am sure many billions will be spent by the two main contending parties: the two-headed monster of the Democratic and Republican Parties. Plus, independent parties will go for it again, though, they should concentrate on winnable local elections.

The same as many progressive-minded humane people I was pleased with the results of the 2006 Mid-term elections and that, for better or worse, the Democratic Party finally took over the U.S. Congress House and Senate. In the end, the people get the government they deserve by their active direct participation on voting day! If eligible voters do not vote their choices who is a fault?

    Phil_Angelides_For_Governor

In California, my choice for Governor was Phil Angelides as a winnable candidate, but alas he did not win against the shrewd Governator Arnold S. who knows how to drift from left to right and land in a centrist position.

Angelides did not have the bold courage to come out in full support for general amnesty for undocumented immigrants, but instead advocated the unworkable long-term path to citizenship proposed by many which will not work for the 12 Million + immigrants already here now inside the United States. Minus, Angelides could not close the percentage gap as he did with Westly in the closing weeks of the Governor’s Campaign. Minus, he should of come out more stridently against the Amerikan Occupation in Iraq when he first kicked off his campaign. Angelides lost, Arnold won and political life goes on.

Companero Peter Camejo of the Green Party held true to his humane ethics in his last symbolic bid for high office and did not have to curry favor with the middle-class as Angelides tried to do and lost.
I remember him from the early 70's in the Bay Area when he was with the Young Socialist Alliance and he has remained true to his self over these tumultuous decades.

    Camejo_Collage

One should always take and keep a strong stand on basic humane principles, not be swayed by passing winds of devious doctrine or warped by popular opinion of the U.S. general population still suffering from terrorist paranoia and a form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) post-911 2001.

In traditional electoral politics there is always the struggle between the positions of doing what is right and most humane on the moral high ground and what is popular and politically correct in order to win a given election. Humane principles should remain in our hearts; political elections come and go. Many times it is not an either-or stance on a position that counts as much as what one emphasizes more in his political statements. Who feeds the feeders of public opinion? In electoral politics, there is often the crime of omission or ignoring the obvious while people bleed to death because of insane domestic and foreign policies.

Anyways, life goes on and I am glad the Democratic Party won control of the U.S. Congress, that is, both the House and the Senate. However, I wonder if we are not all left with the lesser of two evils again, as usual, as a result of these elections. I know that sometimes alliances are transitory in politics and war, not permanent.

The Maoist dictum remains: politics is still war without bloodshed and war is politics with bloodshed or by ‘other alternative means’.

Clearly, Amerikan electoral politics has a long ways to go before it can be really considered a democratic process when you have to be super-rich to run for high office or beholden to the super-rich. Most rational-thinking people realize the determining power of big money politics whether they registered with the duo-poly of the Democratic and Republican Parties or independent voters. U.S. Elections are actually bought by cold hard cash more than won by excited voters.

A lot of electoral politics and politicians are now focused on the 2008 Presidential Elections, though, we must not forget the day-to-day basic survival needs of the people, including the general call for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops out of Iraq and the condemnation of any further U.S. military misadventures in the Third World, such as what is being projected in Latin America. A ‘Latin-nam’ scenario has already been building up for decades in key Latin American countries, but the Amerikan Empire and its Killing Machine got caught up in the Middle East. Nevertheless, the handwriting written in blood is already on the wall to be seen by those who dare to see!

All progressive organizations, political groups and individuals now need to focus on voter registration and community education on the local level with a global overview.

Today, I propose the creation of VOTE, an acronym for Voters Organized To Educate, that will provide local leadership, have paid daily staff and be equipped with local offices in our poor communities in order to promote voter registration/education drives during the most crucial election time, that is, the time between general elections before the general population gets bombarded with political ads, slogans and campaigns. VOTE would register all people of any party with the ideal being to GET OUT THE VOTE ON ELECTION DAY!

Why not put TWO BILLION PLUS into voter registration and community education among the people in our poor and oppressed communities impacted by public elections instead of negative campaign ads? Common sense is often a rare quality in today’s crazed politics. Whether we win public elections or not, the People’s Liberation Movement needs to utilize the whole realm of electoral politics in order to raise consciousness and mobilize the masses as a mean to the end true strategic goal of the People’s Empowerment!

The repressed mentality is scarred by the desire for and fear of true liberation. For poor, oppressed and repressed peoples liberation means socialism. Let not the Amerikan fascist propaganda machine twist your mind against your own survival interests. Clearly we should all see the urgent need for an alternative economic system to corporate capitalism!

The question of the Third Millennium: How do we create a true socialist democracy inside the United States and true socialist democracies throughout the world where the people actively participate in their government? Total liberation must be worldwide.

Let all progressive partisans have clear basic definitions of what democracy and socialism is all about:

Read> Death Penalty, Saddam Hussain and Humanity!

Monday Night ~ 11-06-2006 Gracias for your response!
The public cage would be cruel and unusual punishment, better just to get a rope and save on a bullet. However, I am not Iraqi and you are correct it should be done in a way approved by the Iraqi people, but who will take the poll or do the survey? I am surprised he was not killed when he was in the Spider Hole!

Peter, one important consideration: the trial of Saddam has to be perceived as justice by the people of Iraq, who have very different views about death penalties than Americans have. I think one has to take that into consideration. Iraq is still a region of clan warfare (you kill one of mine, so I kill one of yours). Anything less than hanging would not be seen as justice in Iraq. On the other hand, his execution is likely to trigger a big clash of Sunni (Saddam supporters) and Shiite (Saddam victims) where very many people wil die, many of them quite innocent. It will take the wisdom of Solomon to determine the right punishment for Saddam which does not cost hundreds of innocent lives.
Me, I would suggest putting him on display in a big cage in a public area for the rest of his life. Therefore no clan bloodshed, and for Saddam maybe a fate worst than death--which he really deserves.

Hola All Members of the Humane Family ~
Gracias for your educational Email Brother Palashc! I took the liberty of editing it for better readability and made more separate paragraphs in the hopes that more people will read it as your Email with its sources brought up several relevant points about the sad Saddam Case.

My first animal instinct is to be glad the verdict is in and that Saddam is to be hanged as he was and is a great evildoer, then, my striving to be a conscious humane being makes me ponder upon this a little longer before we run out and take a basket collection for a rope. It has not been a cut and dry case.
As a humane principle, I am against the death penalty as wielded by an unjust state, but there are exceptional cases when the death penalty is appropriate when great crimes have been committed. I am no pacifist while war plagues the people.

John 8:7 -- So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone..."
And evil rulers in glass houses should not throw stones!

Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death in Baghdad by hanging after being found guilty of crimes against humanity.Saddam was president of Iraq from 1979 to 2003, when his Sunni-dominated government was deposed by a US-led invasion.Iraq war protagonists the United States and Britain have led the applause after justice was meted out to Saddam Hussein.

Saddam Hussein may not executed by hanging until the start of next year, as there is no time limit set for the
    appeals process,
the chief investigative judge Raed Juhi said today.Mr Juhi said:"There is no specific time limit for the appeals process. But after they have made their decision, the punishment must be implemented within 30 days."
