Beware the Ides of March! In late March of 2006 there was a Spiritual Awakening of ‘La Raza Cosmica de Aztlan’ inside the United States. The Sun, Moon and the Stars came together in mass conspiracy and well-tuned harmony. The wacky world of cultural politics, racial relations and social dynamics inside the divided United States and our standing on the world stage will never be the same.
On Saturday, March 25, 2006, there were great marches and gatherings by the masses of La Raza Cosmica and many others in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the 1966 340-mile Cesar Chavez March from Delano to Sacramento which arrived on Easter Sunday in Sacramento, California. Plus, there was strong mass support by millions of people for the immigrant rights of undocumented workers all across the country and protesting against the pending fascist legislation known as HR 4437.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2006, a total eclipse of the Sun was visible from within a narrow corridor traversed half the Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow began in Brazil and extended across the Atlantic, northern Africa, and central Asia where it ended at sunset in western Mongolia.

In conjunction with these great historical events there has been a steady stream of Chicano student movement ‘Walkouts’ in many barrios across Aztlan which mirrored in a higher form the East L.A. Chicano Student Walkouts of 1968, though today we have the use of Internet Power with progressive websites, Text Messaging via cell phones to get the word out and the power of Spanish-language radio to help spread the news!

Rare Conjunction:
In an historical context, these events have fascinating parallels with the early Chicano Movement of the late 60’s and early 70’s and have been a unique rare conjunction of different significant social elements that came together, including:
* The 40th Anniversary of the Cesar Chavez Marcha of 1966;
* Proposed fascist immigration legislation to make undocumented workers felons and thus criminals known as HR4437, plus, penalize any employers who hire them;
* Recent attacks on undocumented workers, spotlighted by the neo-Nazi Minutemen along the U.S.-Mexican Border, plus, the perverted plan for erecting an armed military wall on the U.S./Mexican border;
* Growing socialist-inspired movements that have brought positive democratic governments into state power in Latin America through legal, legitimate elections in Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile; and
* The continued cruel arrogance of power exhibited by the Amerikan Occupation of Iraq and the Bush Rogue Regime‘s War on Terror.
The widespread fear, hysteria and paranoia spawned by the Bush Rogue Regime has awakened many people to the fact that there is a growing military-authoritarian fascism 'in power and secure' inside the United States!
Mexican Families and La Raza Cosmica:
In the U.S.A., many Mexican families are keenly aware of what is going on, know about the Bush war on terror and see many brown-faced Iraqi people on TV. Any economic security they have as undocumented workers is being threatened by U.S. foreign policy. In recent months, the spotlight has been on them and they have come out of the shadows of American life as a mass to claim their humane rights as human beings, including the right to work without fear of kidnap, deportation and the breakup of family structures.
Three of the greatest assets of traditional Mexican people is their belief in a strong family unity, in Jesus Christ and in the value of hard labor to make their lives better for their families, especially their children.
We use the term La Raza Cosmica ~ the Cosmic Race ~ as a general term for all native indigenous people and descendents of the original inhabitants of Aztlan or the southwestern portion of the United States. We also refer to ourselves by other terms of self-identity, such as, Chicanos, Mexicans, Latinos, La Raza, Mexicans, Hispanics and Mexican-Americans. Our skin color is mainly brown but can vary from black to white. Our main language is Spanish, but many of us are bi-lingual speaking both Spanish and English. Many of us have lost any knowledge of our original native indigenous tongues
The concept of ‘race’ is really a social construction, not rooted in scientific fact. Evil social forces have always used racism to keep the masses in conflict with each other in keeping with the ancient Roman formula of ‘divide-and-conquer’. In connected reality, human beings are of one and the same living people and we are all natives of Mother Earth!
Creating Unity Between Mexicanos and Chicanos:
The old ego-driven ‘macho’ Chicano Movement faded out decades ago, failed to create a lasting international socialist organization, was sideswiped by Chicano cultural nationalism and failed to absorb Mexicans from Mexico into any global strategic planning. We must learn from past mistakes to prevent future ones, be open to constructive criticism, engage in our own self-criticism and build up a bold new humane rights movement without walls, borders or checkpoints for all people!
La Raza Cosmica must become a truly bi-lingual and multi-cultural people in order to achieve true social integration without losing our beautiful cultural heritage and work in close solidarity with all people of all races, nations and tribes who seek liberty, justice and democracy.
The so-called Sleeping Giant has awoken, but we must stay awake, stay alert and keep on watch. We have never been fully asleep. For long centuries, we have been busy at work slaving, sweating and struggling for our needs under the continued Amerikan Occupation. The material abundance of modern Amerika is essentially the creation of Third World peoples, including our endless toil in the hot fields of California.
A true culture is a liberation culture that creates, nurtures and develops true social liberation based upon the on-going creation of social conditions that support total liberation from the misery of economic poverty, social oppression and military repression!
We will mobilize the masses around the basics of survival. The basics forever remain the basics: nutritional food, proper clothing, decent shelter, medical care and empowering education! Stay awake! Be liberated! Mobilize the Masses for May 1st 2006!
